George Maranzani

U. S. Army Air Forces

George Maranzani was born in Jersey City, N.J., the fourth of five sons: Lawrence, Louis, Robert and William. He served as an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Force, stationed in Ipswich, England, during World War II.

George moved to Staten Island after he married Dora Signoriello in 1947. They were married for 46 years until her death in 1993. After marrying Dora, George became a member of the Christian Pentecostal Church, serving as an usher and board member, and was on the original building committee when the church moved from Pike Street to Richmond Road.

George came from a long line of jewelers. He owned NY Watch and Jewelry Company, and later Maranzani Jewelers on Forest Avenue. Later, he and his wife traveled the East Coast working at antique shows.

George raised his family with Dora in New Brighton. He was the loving father of Joseph Maranzani and his wife, Joyce, Amelia Rella and her husband, Gene, and Antonia Ritorto and her husband, James. He was especially proud of his 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren (now nine great-grandchildren).

George was known for his generosity, great cooking and a wonderful sense of humor, He never missed a chance to entertain friends and family. George died peacefully in his home on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 surrounded by family.
