WE ARE IN DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS WITH THE BOROUGH PRESIDENT'S OFFICE

Drone footage reveals decades of neglect.

We face overgrowth, dumping, standing water, etc.

NOW The City is looking to have NYEDC take the lead

on yet another $450 Million Dollar project at the St. George Ferry

when NYEDC cannot even be responsible enough

to tend to routine housekeeping on property they currently own,

 THE NORTH SHORE RAILWAY.

This video is from a backyard inside Nicholas estates adjoining the North Shore Railway; taken on Thanksgiving Eve 2023.

All the untrimmed trees are encroaching onto the community's private property and limiting owners' enjoyment of their yards.

We have been working this issue since February.

We did a walk through with NYEDC on November 8th, 2023.

We stated our frustration, at a conversation started in February 2023 and still NOTHING has been done.

We made it very clear that NYEDC does not want to be on the wrong side of this if something happens.

Well, guess what,

  • On Thanksgiving Eve 2023 A tree [on NYEDC property] fell onto private property destroying the homeowners outdoor furniture and some of the decks to their home. (video/photo footage attached).

  • Since another tree fell during the Christmas holidays falling onto the sidewalk on Nicholas Avenue.

  • Since a tree fell on a grassy knoll inside Nicholas Estates, (since removed by the management Company of Nicholas Estates).

  • NYC Health Department is issuing summonses to homeowners adjacent to this railway for rodent activity such as Moles in the property.

  • The railway has become a breeding ground for rodent activity (rat sightings) and mice droppings adjacent to the railway and on private property.

Another storm with rain and high winds is expected Tues-Wed January 8-9, 2024.

Our  Borough President Vito Fosssella says "The Water Front" comes first.

CONSTITUENTS AND SAFETY COME FIRST- NOT A SPECIAL INTEREST!

We presented a comprehensive plan to get this area clean:

  • Four Mid-sized local companies participate in this cleanup

  • All with appropriate insurances to cover the cleanup

  • Approximate cost to remediate this health concern. ($100-$120,000)

  • Time frame in which this will be completed. (9 Days)

We were turned down flat.
