Charles Navarino was born at the old Staten Island Hospital in Tompkinsville on Feb 5, 1931.

Charles grew up in New Brighton with siblings, twin brother Vincent, Phyllis (Castaldi), Dolores (Merrill), and Anthony Jr.

He graduated McKee Tech High School in 1949 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict in 1951 and became a Jeep driver in Anchorage, Alaska. In June, Charles 1953 received honorable discharge after his father died of a heart attack.

In 1955, Charles married Angie Perno and moved to Dongan Hills. They became the parents of three, Anthony J., Carolyn (DiMartino), and Gina (Simas); five grandchildren, Joey, Charlie, Michael DiMartino, Kayla, and Troy Simas, and two great-grandchildren, Aria and Nicolette DiMartino.

Charles worked as a truck driver for the New York Daily News and the former New York Mirror, the Richmond County News, and the Hudson County News and later took on a position as a bus driver for Pioneer bus. Company.

Charles is active in American Legion Granito-Smith Post 1296. Both he and his brother are active with Veteran’s Day services, and working hard for the community, especially helping families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas season.
