Henry F. “Bud” Graebe

World War II Veteran Henry F. “Bud” Graebe was born December 15, 1917 in Port Richmond, Staten Island, NY. He completed his Selective Service from 1939-1940 and was a trained pilot and navigator.

When WW II was declared, he reentered the Army Air Corp and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant and served as a navigator from 1941 until 1946.

On December 13, 1941 he married the love of his life Dorothy Ann Sherwood. They had 6 children, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.

Henry was employed by the Firemen’s Fund Insurance Company, Manhattan.

He was founder and President of the Graebe Insurance Agency and a past president of the Richmond County Agents Association. Bud was a founding member of Hillside Swim Club. He served as a charter member and skipper of the Mariners Club of New Jersey. He is a past Grand Knight of the
Assumption Council, Knights of Columbus, where he was a fourth degree Knight. An avid bowler and golfer he played golf into his eighties. Mr. Graebe was a communicant of Saint Catherine’s Church, Holmdel, NJ where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Henry died October 28, 2014 at the age of 96. He is greatly missed but has left a legacy of life lessons and love for all of us to carry on his blessed memory.
