William H. Irvine, III

William Howard Irvine III, a Staten Island native, was born on November 30, 1970 and raised
in Port Richmond. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and later went on to graduate from Moore
Catholic High School. After graduation, Billy served his country for five years as a U.S. Marine where he was a mechanic working on ejector seats of jets.

He started his career in the FDNY on February 4, 2001, as a squad leader in the Fire Academy, assigned to Engine 283 in Brownsville. He worked the aftermath of 9/11. He spent countless days on the pile looking for survivors. Billy was promoted to Lieutenant in 2010 and continued to serve his community at Engine
156 in West Brighton on Staten Island.

In his spare time, Billy enjoyed cooking and a good meal with friends and family. He loved history, especially American history and politics. Billy loved to read and especially enjoyed books by authors Stephen King, Robert Heinlein, J.R.R. Tolkien and Steven Ambrose. Music was an important part of his life.

He believed songs were the mile markers in life. He loved to cook both at the Firehouse and at home. He loved holidays and enjoyed Thanksgiving with family around the table, and listening to stories about relatives and loved ones.

Billy was a genuine guy with an honest heart who got along with everybody.He always had a smile on his face and a great laugh. He was fiercely loyal to the people he was close with.

Billy passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51 on July 25, 2022. Billy is survived by his four children - two sets of twins whom he loved dearly.

On October 12, 2002, Billy was Honored at the 115th Annual FDNY Memorial Day Service with 17 other FDNY members who passed away in 2023.
